Website technical audit — analysis and prioritised report

A technical audit of your website analyses structure, performance, SEO, cookies and configuration to identify what isn’t working and in what order to act. I work with freelancers, professionals and small businesses who already run a website and want to stop working by trial and error.

what I do

A technical consultation to understand what isn’t working on your website and how to make it more solid, organised and professional

You already have a website, but something isn’t right. Maybe it’s slow, maybe you’re not sure the cookies are set up correctly, maybe you’ve ended up with ten plugins doing things the theme could do on its own — or that WordPress already does natively. Maybe you’ve never tested restoring a backup, or your images are still in their original 4-megabyte format. These aren’t minor details: they are exactly the problems that make a website fragile, hard to manage and less effective for the people who visit it. This consultation is for bloggers, freelancers and professionals who want to stop working by trial and error and finally get a clear view of what works, what doesn’t and in what order to act.

the service

I help you bring order to your website, identifying technical issues and concrete actions to improve it

During the analysis I examine structure, navigation, content, plugins, performance, responsive design, basic technical SEO, tracking, privacy and the main configuration. I don’t just point out problems: for each one I indicate its priority and suggest how to deal with it — distinguishing between what can be done straight away, what needs a developer and what is best planned for later.

Development environment, hosting and security

I analyse the technical foundations of the site: hosting plan, PHP version, SSL configuration, access and permission management. I check automatic backups, the staging environment, correct handling of the theme and child theme, and custom code. I also check core, plugin and theme updates, plugin integrations and conflicts, and the overall health of the site in detail.

Structure and architecture

I analyse how the site is organised: page hierarchy, URL structure, navigation logic and consistency between sections. I check that the main pages exist and can be reached, and that there are no orphan pages, misconfigured redirects or duplicate content. I also check the menu structure, whether there is a custom 404 page and the general consistency between what the site promises and what it actually contains.

Privacy, cookies and GDPR compliance

I analyse the cookie banner configuration, the loading order of analytics scripts and any tracking that runs before consent. I check that the privacy notice, the cookie policy and the tracking actually installed on the site are consistent. I review Google Analytics, the Facebook Pixel and other third-party scripts — how they are loaded, when they fire and whether their behaviour matches what users are told.

UI/UX, layout and visual design

I analyse visual hierarchy, proportions, layout consistency across pages and typographic readability. I check the use of space, colour consistency, image quality and how well the look matches the brand’s positioning. I review behaviour on mobile devices: layout adaptation, touch navigation, readability on small screens, and elements that overlap or disappear.

Performance and technical SEO

I analyse loading speed, Core Web Vitals, image weight, the number and size of scripts, fonts and active plugins. I check titles, meta descriptions, heading structure, sitemap, robots.txt, indexing and internal links. I also check for structured data and the consistency between URLs, content and target keywords.

how I work

A practical process to understand the real state of your website and act with clear priorities.

My method starts from analysing the existing site and its current configuration. I examine what users see and what works behind the scenes: installed tools, performance, technical structure, tracking, basic SEO and content management. At the end you get practical guidance to act in an orderly way, without wasting time or budget on changes that aren’t a priority.

  1. Access and review

I receive the access I need or work with public analysis tools, depending on the type of site. Before starting I get to know the context: how long the site has existed, who manages it and which problems are already known.

  2. Analysis

I examine the site systematically, following the five areas of the service. I document each issue with a clear description and an assessment of its real impact.

  3. Priorities

I put the work in order of importance: what is blocking or damaging the site now, what should be improved in the short term, and what can be planned later without urgency.

  4. Delivery and autonomy

During the consultation you receive a structured document with all the issues found, the priorities and practical guidance. Where possible, I point out what you can handle yourself — without having to rely on a developer for every change.

real cases

What I usually find

Situations that came up during technical audits. They aren’t exceptions — they’re the norm. If you manage your website yourself, at least one of them probably applies to you.

Analytics cookies active before consent

The banner was there, but Google Analytics started as soon as the page loaded, regardless of the user’s choice. A misconfigured plugin, invisible to the naked eye, made the site non-compliant with the GDPR.

Duplicate plugins for the same function

Three caching plugins, two for the sitemap, one for features already included in the theme. Every unnecessary plugin is a potential point of conflict, an update risk and a drag on performance.

Backup configured but never tested

The automatic backup had been running for years. The restore had never been checked. If it had really been needed, it wouldn’t have worked.

Images uploaded at original size

3 to 5 MB files uploaded straight from the camera, with no resizing or conversion. The main cause of slowness on mobile and of a low Lighthouse score.

Incorrect heading structure

Several H1s on the same page, headings used for looks instead of content hierarchy. A direct impact on SEO and accessibility, often without the owner being aware of it.

No staging environment

Plugin updates and theme changes made directly in production. An unexpected conflict can take the site offline with no way to roll back quickly.
